When it comes to giving up smoking there are a number of different options available to help make the break. There are the well known patches and chewing gum, but one thing that people often don’t give a lot of thought to is acupuncture. Acupuncture is a decades old practise that has been used on millions of people for a wide ranging array of problems. Very thin needles are used to puncture the skin in specific places which then help to change the perceived taste of cigarettes, which in turn makes them seem less appealing. Also, tobacco has an effect on the liver and the way it functions and when tobacco is withdrawn the liver sends signals to the brain which are received as cravings for cigarettes. Acupuncture helps to stimulate the function of the liver – increasing the energy to that which was commonplace before it became reliant on smoking. In all, there seems a lot to gain and very little to lose.
